20s Antique Red Wool Long Sleeve Large Day Dress Details:
- softer red wool fabric
- dress was made by home seamstress
- front side tiered box pleats in front and back of skirt
- V neckline
- original twist attached belt that matches twisted snap button cuffs
- belt is attached at waistband and does not come undone (this is how it originally was so I put it back exactly where it was prior to cleaning)
- slips over head with no closure so body measurements must be smaller than dress size
- due to stains on dress, if i were keeping it, I would cover them with some kind of period autumn/winter appliqué that would have been popular back when this dress was originally made
- best for a large but please base purchase off of actual measurements
Condition: good
- approximately a dozen or so rust colored stains on different areas of the dress (a few up near upper side bodice, a larger one with a couple smaller on left sleeve, a few on the skirt). I have attempted to remove these but they wouldn't budge.
- about 5 small patches to holes on dress with fabric from inner box pleat overage
- 1 small darn (one underarm, one sleeve)
- buttons were missing so replaced with antique gold early plastic buttons, one side seam repair
- slight fading and faint underarm discoloration
- I thought i was using cotton mercerized thread for repairs but after i saw it was 40s nylon thread
- clean, ready to wear
